Interview with Suzanne Mountain from Suzanne Mountain – Navigating Change

Suzanne is one of our ‘Experts’ over in the members group this month.   She will be sharing her skills and knowledge on ‘Setting Goals’.

Hello Suzanne! – Tell us about you!

I’ve been married to Kevin for 25 years and we live in Reading. We know have an empty nest as our kids are living independently, this allows us to indulge in our favourite pastime of travelling. I love to explore new places in the UK and all over the world.

What did you do before you set up your business?

This is my second business! I ran one for 12 years years when my children were small before being lured back into corporate life again. Prior to running this business, I was Head of Talent & Organisation Development for the worlds second largest Recruitment company.

Why did you set up your business?

I set up this business as I wanted to share my knowledge and experience of growing businesses and coaching with more people. I was fed up with the politics of corporate life and wanted to work with people who were as passionate about what they do as I am.

What’s been your biggest challenge in running your own business and what have you learnt from it?

To be honest, there have been so many challenges. I have had to learn about using social media to market my business and I have had to become much more visible than I ever thought I would need to.

What are you most proud of?

Being nominated for the Business Girls Awards in the category of Most Inspiring and Active Business Girl in 2018 and my business growth during the second half of 2018.

What advice would you give to people thinking of setting up their own business?

If you are hard working and passionate about your potential business go for it but don’t expect overnight success. It is a real rollercoaster so gather people around you who get you and will cheer and support you.

What would you like people to remember you for?

Being kind.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Being on my own with a good book, a cup of tea and a biscuit (or 3).

What do you get out of being part of the biz girls community?

The Business Girls community has been a game changer for me. I was feeling a bit isolated and had not found a networking group where I didn’t feel I had to pretend to be something I am not. I have gained a friends, colleagues and clients. It is my go to place for advice and also to purchase gifts and services from wonderful talented business women.
