Carvill Creative – Michelle Carvill
“Michelle Carvill, strategic marketer, agency founder and three times published author – the UK’s leading authority on social media strategy. Making Digital Marketing Simple(r)… Helping businesses to cut through the confusion, take action and get results.”
Stepping out of your comfort zone, making change, seizing the moment and taking action takes significant courage, commitment and huge amounts of creativity and resilience. When I stepped away from a very secure position to do things ‘my way’ 16 years ago – I had no idea what lay ahead. But what I did know was that, even with the anxiety of the unknown, the financial insecurity, the day to day challenges, a major recession – it was absolutely necessary to make things work ‘on my terms’. For that reason, I celebrate all women who take that step, commit to action, face all matter of adversity and get out there and do it for themselves.

Business Girl Heart of the Community AwardSponsored by Sarah Parfitt of The Media Hub
This category celebrates a woman who is instrumental in delivering change throughout her community. She is someone who engenders true community spirit. She enhances the local area by being at the heart of the community where her organization operates, and, adds value to the lives and outlook of those within the community.
The Media Hub – Sarah Parfitt
I am a media consultant and I run the Media Hub, a networking group for industry professionals in Cookham. I am also a freelance trainer for the BBC Academy and worked as a radio producer for over 20 years before that.
It was such an honour to win the Business Girl Heart of the Community Award last year both for running the Media Hub and for my ambassadorial work for Partners For Change Ethiopia. I am a people person and being part of a community is invaluable to me. After having my two sons and moving to Cookham, I found it quite isolating working from home initially, which is why I set the Media Hub up, so that I could collaborate with other media professionals. It has also been wonderful to be a part of the burgeoning Business Girl community because I find it such a supportive and vibrant networking group. I am so excited about presenting this year’s winner with their award – in our ever-changing, frenetic world being part of a local and a global community has never been more important.
