Let there be no doubt: blogging is one of the most vital aspects of your online business, especially if you’re a woman in business online with a website. This step is often overlooked, and I’m often asked by my clients why I believe a blog is so necessary, and where do I get my ideas from?


My answers are simple: a blog is essential for your online presence, and you may be surprised by the underlying reasons. Let’s talk about the benefits of having a blog—and how you can use it to build a relationship with your customers while giving your SEO (Search Engine Optimization) a boost at the same time. Essentially, there’s a lot more going on under the hood than content generation.


The most obvious benefit is building a relationship with your readers. Brands thrive on stories and relationships, and your business is no different. Having a blog allows you to let your hair down a little and share your journey as well as news and updates. The more your audience knows you, the greater your rapport with them—and in marketing terms, the more likely they are to think of you when they want to purchase.

Just as important is SEO. Google and other search engines love content and will scour each post for keywords and rank your site accordingly. For one post, that won’t mean much. But the more posts and keywords you have, the more chances you have of showing up in a search result and grabbing a new reader—and potential customer. Keywords are a complex area, but these are the basics. A good rule of thumb is to keep keywords to 2-3% of the text in general and to ensure that you don’t overdo it.


Most of all, you’ll need a subject to write about. A blank page can be a tough challenge when you’re fresh out of ideas. Seek inspiration and see what others in your industry are blogging about. Once you’ve found a topic, share your thoughts and join the online discussion!
